The Arethara
The Arethari race is believed to be the direct group of elves which descended from the supremely crystallized of the Aurya who settled in Arethayn after the binding of Aurius, the bound realm of fused light and dark. As an elven race, they are capable of practicing magic, creating or manipulating their environments with this magic as they had been gifted in these arts by their ancestors. The innate ability of wielding the raw powers of magic is woven into their blood as it is this magic which allowed them to crystallize from the light, being the most divine descendants of the Aurya.
Origins
The Arethara are descendants of the first of the Aurya to incarnate from the light at a point where the light was plentiful and abundant, which is further described as crystallizing by these sophisticated and arcane people, the crystallized essences which emerged from this time constituting the beginning of this elven race. As an effect of their crystallized status, they wield a greater arsenal of skills and powers, one of which being their practice of magic which is lost to the incarnated mannish races.
Upon forming from the instabilities of the beginning time from the energies of the Aurya, they founded a mythical land that would come to be the elven homeland, the consecrated grounds of stability and immortality, as it was considered to be most reminiscent of Avaerus, the immortal plane of light and energy. This land, as is well-known by the Arethara, would be called Arethayn, meaning ancient land.
Culture
Their culture is based heavily off of the morals of the Aurya, their ancestors, these Aurya being as varied as the Arethara themselves. They have retained all of the honored Aurya’s morals, an important aspect of their culture maintaining Auryi purity, meaning worship or consorting with other spirits besides the Aurya is intolerable, among many other rules. They see the Aurya as being the ultimatum of all moral and otherwise theocratic authority, and so are often known to reject the morals and teachings of the Sorya and Novya, all in accordance with the Aurya they worship and venerate.
They worship many powerful spirits, rightfully considered to be gods, who they consider to be their ancestors. Their gods’ corporeal bodies, now long deceased and subsequently reborn into the realm’s frame, were used to reproduce with the others of the divine as this was their method of survival in the world of crystallized flesh. The ethereal and spiritual essences of these ancestors still exist, however, merely watching over Aurius and silently lending their assisting hands in order to create a more ideal universe for themselves and their descendants, possessing some control over Aurius as they had been bound to the realm and fused with its frame in the beginning times.
In addition to their gods, they also acknowledge the existence of many lesser spirits who are also their ancestors, these lesser spirits only important to their descendants. These lesser spirits, while still being Aurya, are legally worshipped by their descendants, though the ancestors of their betters are oftentimes emulated and thus, more likely known and worshipped.
Their culture is also heavily defined by their caste system, which is the primary reason for the other elves’ departure of the elven homeland, Arethayn. Those who descend from the most powerful Aurya, those Aurya who, in centuries past, established themselves in the world and claimed a certain deification, are found in the highest echelons, ruling above the other Arethara as kings and queens. In contrast, those who descend from the lesser yet still crystallized Aurya, who would only be recognized by their descendants, would constitute the lower end of the society, being less powerful as their ancestors had failed to assert themselves into the world. It is the hubris of this higher class that truly defines the nature of these elves as opposed to the nature of the mortals, considering themselves to be inherently better and more pure than other races.
Another pillar that upholds their society is the construct of purity, this purity being primarily based on the worshipped and reverenced Aurya, the highest echelons of their elven culture believed to naturally possess these idealized traits of grandiosity and beauty. According to their concept of purity, all other races are naturally considered to be more imperfect and impure than themselves, viewing other races with disdain as they are believed to have evolved from mortality, chaos, and physicality. The Arethara are known to be more in touch with magic and spirituality in accordance to their racial descent from the pure, thus forming the basis for their concept of purity as they commune with their gods on a more personal level, allowing them many blessings and gifts.
The magic that they practice is borrowed exclusively from their ancestors, the most illustrious and eldest of the Aurya, who created the crystallized realm of Arethayn in various magical deeds of great power and ability. It is this power shown by these Aurya that the Arethara strive to achieve, showing mastery of the manipulations of the various elements given to the golden realm of Arethayn by these Aurya, with some who show particular dedication to these arts eventually rising to a state of elevation above other Arethara, though these are typically the children of great mages themselves.
Biology
These elves are known to possess a variety of skin tone, consisting of a deep golden to a slightly golden tint. Oftentimes, the exact amount of a golden tint shows which group of Aurya the elves descended from, usually a signifier of the superiority or inferiority of their position in their caste system. Their hair color is often a dirty blonde, with some being browner and some being blonder. Their eyes are often golden, as a remnant of their godly origins.
As descendants of the firstborn of the Aurya, they tend to have a longer lifespan than the mortal races, the dilemma of time not being an issue for this elven race. They often live to ages of hundreds or even a thousand years, still maintaining their youthful appearances due to their potent magic. Those higher in the caste system live longer, due to their exposure to magic and relative safety from the world and its troubles.
They rarely reproduce due to their extended lifespan, not seeing a purpose to reproduce unless the population wanes. They rarely even have two children in their entire great lifetime, an elven union usually producing one child.
In addition to the other physical traits, they are known to be much more slender and graceful than the mortals are, the beauty of the gods revealing themselves in this elven race. Sharp, pointed ears also predominate among the race which descends from the gods, though the elven grandeur of appearance does not end with that radiance; the continuation is the flawless facial features of their high cheekbones and sharpness of the skull, the normally and traditionally taut skin revealing the original beauties of the elven facial structure.
